George Henderson is the county attorney; he has been called to investigate the murder of John Wright and will probably serve as the attorney for the prosecution in the event of a trial. Henry Peters is the Sheriff, and Lewis Hale is a neighboring farmer. One of the major themes of this play revolves around the major disconnect between men and women. All three men are cordial with each other. THe men live in a patriarchal world. They are bound by gender and relate to women as being inferior or even child-like.
