This is a pretty detailed question. Winston is a realist, within the context of his dystopia, this makes him a fatalist. He knows his very thoughts will eventually lead the state to punish an kill him. There is no other way his life can play out. Winston hates the party, he is a thought criminal and he will die. So why does Winston continue down this path? Perhaps he wants to feel a little life in an otherwise empty life void of meaning. In. any case Winston knows his ultimate fate is already written.
