how does winston feel about physical pain? how does this relate to what u know about his character

While winston is being beaten by a faceless guard he feels anything is better than the pain inflicted. A person will do or say anything to make it stop. Winston is a pretty reliable narrator. His objectivity is startling at times so I think he knows of what he speaks of.
