Orwell takes us from a slow, dry read at the end of Book II but uses a plot twist to reel his readers back in to the book 1984

The fact that O'Brien is actually part of the Inner Party, and not some fantasy rebel brotherhood, plus the fact that Mr Carrington is actually part of the thought police reels us back in. Winston and Julia have never been getting away with anything. They have been watched all along. There is no cheating the Party.
