To what work does this quotation refer? What might the "true names" be?
"The work was overwhelming . . . because the processes that it involved could not be called by their true names."
"The work was overwhelming . . . because the processes that it involved could not be called by their true names."
I believe the quotation is directly related to the records department's revision of history. The "true names" of their actions would include deceit, manipulation, revision and alteration; these are words for what you would call the processes of the records departments employees.
