Why is Winston attracted to the old room in Mr.Charringtons room?
Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The major drawing point for Winston is that there is no telescreen. Aside from that, the room is old and filled with items that existed before the revolution. Winston wants to bask in the "oldness" of it all, a time when the party did not exist. Winston pictures the room to be an oasis, like the coral paperweight, where he and Julia can meet. They can surround themselves with pre-party objects and temporarily shut the Party out.
