Why was Winston disappointed in the O'Brien's wine?

Winston is disappointed because he's been drinking gin for so long that the wine had barely any taste at all. He thought he'd enjoy the sweetness of a beverage he hadn't had in forever, and that he would get an immediate high......... needless to say, he couldn't taste the sweetness and wine is far less intoxicating than gin.
