Winston is disappointed because he's been drinking gin for so long that the wine had barely any taste at all. He thought he'd enjoy the sweetness of a beverage he hadn't had in forever, and that he would get an immediate high......... needless to say, he couldn't taste the sweetness and wine is far less intoxication than gin.
