When Dave brings home a letter from Mr. Ziegler telling Mother about Dave's being the top student in the class, how does Mother react?

Mother tells David the letter is meaningless, that it is impossible for him to impress her. She also reminds him that to her.... he is nothing, an "it", and that she wished he's drop dead.
