I think Scrooge's most painful one would be when he rebuked the affections of his girlfriend Belle. She realizes that Scrooge loves greed more than her. This vision shows Scrooge throwing away his most treasured gift for greed that has eaten at his soul.
"'Spirit!' said Scrooge, 'show me no more! Conduct me home. Why do you delight to torture me?'"
