The climate of London plays an important role in the story. How does Charles Dickens use the weather to set the tone and mood of a christmas carol?

The weather is largely grey, cold, dark, and dreary. This sets the tone of London being a place of poverty and the working poor merely trying to feed themselves. This also matches the darkness ( the constant black soot lingering in the air) of the coal-fired factories during the industrial revolution.
