What is Scrooge's nephew's attitude towards Christmas? Why does Scrooge find it difficult to understand ?

Scrooge's nephew wishes Scrooge a merry Christmas, but Scrooge answers him with a disdainful "Bah! Humbug!" He believes Christmas is the same as any day of the year, a day in which one must still pay bills. His nephew, Fred, thinks of Christmas as a "kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time." He invites Scrooge to dine with him tomorrow, but his uncle rejects the offer.

Dickens uses positive adjectives in order to present Fred's attitudes towards christmas as joyous which contrasts scrooges attitudes. This is clearly evident when fred is described to be "cheerful", to have eyes that "sparkled" and to have a "glow." This suggests that Fred is passionate about christmasband it makes him very delighted. The adjective "cheerful" shows that Fred feels uplifted by it. The use of the adjectives, "sparkled" and "glow" suggest that he has a bubbly and likeable personality. It also suggests that he is enthusiastic and is like an angel because he is so positive and radiant. Dickens may be trying to highlight what the minority of society are like and how the majority should be more generous by valuing happiness more than money or wealth.
