Scrooge first starts to change when the ghost of christmas past takes him to his childhood school and Scrooge sees himself as a boy “The school is not quite desserted, a solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.”, when Scrooge sees himself as a little boy he sobs and reminds him of the carol singer that he sent away “There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something: thats all.”
