Three people, a charwoman , Mrs Dilber who is a laundress , and an undertaker's ma enter Old Joe's dark and dirty shop to sell him items they have stolen from the dead man. Dickens brings them to life through their dialogue as they justify their actions. The significance of this scene is that by his actions and attitude, made himself a nobody in the eyes of others, and they will have no respect for him when he's gone.
