Who is Fan, and why is she important to Scrooge?

then can someone answer:Who is Fezziwig, and why is he so important to Scrooge? Why does Belle end her engagement to Scrooge?

Scrooge and his sister Fan move to London where Fan gives birth to Fred (Scrooge's nephew) but dies from giving birth. Mortality rates from giving birth were very high.
