Why is the spirit of Christmas Past motivated to take Scrooge to every place of his past?

The Ghost of Christmas Past is meant to take Scrooge back in time to see who he was and how he started down the path to the man he became. His purpose was to remind Scrooge that there were things in life more important than money..... the he was capable of love, and that he was surely capable of having fun. The people he saw from his past were a reminder of the goodness in the world..... the things he'd long forgotten.
