Clarifying What The Message Is

So, the message of this book is to say that no matter how evil a person is, it is wrong to brainwash them into doing the "right" things, correct?

I think it's "what goes around comes around," look at what happens to Alec upon his release from prison. The Hindus call it Karma. Because of the conditioning he's undergone Alec is unable to react to the violence he meets with when he returns to society. Like his former victims he is now helpless and a victim.
