I think certainly the patriarchal culture of the time made father's and husband's rather similar. Torvald's treatment of Nora is patronizing. He often treats her as a child. He refuses to see Nora as a separate adult rather he treats her with one dimensional emotions. It is this patriarchal separation of both emotion and individuality which marks the times. Both father and husband sought control.
