The answer probably depends on your definition of the word brave. Is she ready to face the consequences of her actions? Obviously, she is getting ready to have a child, and that would be brave considering the obvious dangers of pregnancy and delivery. Is she brave to run away with Fredric? She seems to be unaware of what would happen if they were caught, feeling comfortable with their sojourn in the mountains which is almost idyllic. She is brave also because she is finally willing to fall in love, an action she had deserted after the death of her fiance.
