Why do you think Grant cries at the end of the novel?Has his outlook changed

I think Grant is vinally showing vulnerability. He is breaking down the hard walls he has created between himself and the world, especially the children in his class. , Grant's crying in front of his students shows that he is finally ready to connect with the children with whom his has been so strict throughout the novel.
