How does Linda Sue Park contrast Nya’s and Salva’s POVs?

The main contrast between the two stories can be found in Parks' use of descriptive narrative. Parks uses very little dialogue, and when she does, it is short and to the point. Her use of descriptive narrative, however, assists the reader in remaining focused on the Nya and Salva.... what they are going through individually. This also helps the reader to follow the passage of time, something integral in Salva's narrative, as it spans a period of over twenty years.
