The boys went to school for a formal education. The girls wer kept at home for a practical education.... housekeeping and cooking. It was not deemed necessary or proper for a girl to attend school.

Back then, the boys didn't send girls to school. I hated school in the 1800s, but I wasn't even born. I am mostly a philogynist.
