Salva decided to walk south, and his confidence led about 1500 boys to follow him. Because of the fighting, he led the boys to hide during the day and travel at night. He organized the large group, gave everyone jobs, and made sure the bigger boys were ready to carry the little ones when they grew too tired. Salva was encouraging and stern.... he also used his uncle's advice.... "one step at a time.... one day at a time."
