A long way gone
A long way gone
The first conflict happens when a ten-year-old Beah tries to make sense of rumors of war he has been hearing. Two years later, the war comes to his village and Beah's life is turned upside down. Beah believes his family is dead and he must run away from the fighting. Much of the story in chapter 1-9 has Beah, his little brother, and his friends trying to find food, water, and a safe place to stay. This proves very difficult, as people in villages do not like strange boys as they are often seen as ruthless child soldiers.
