Does the author's writing allow you to imagine yourself in Ishmael's shoes and sympathize with his feelings? Ch. 16

The author's descriptive language paints a detailed picture of Beah's life during the time after he lost his family and before his transfer to the UNICEF compound. For most of us, his memories, told in flashbacks are horrifying and all too real. It is my opinion, however, that we could never really put ourselves in Ishmael's shoes or experience his reality, although we can imagine it.
