I suppose that being hungry might be similar to how some college students might feel from time to time. Competing ideologies from government and rebel forces was something that Beah had to contend with. College introduces all kinds of ideas that must be examined and debated. Also College students often go far away from home to study. Beah is forced to go very far from home to survive.
