how did Mrs.Forrester feel when her husband left her?

The first part of A Lost Lady ends with Niel's departure. It imparts a sense of impending doom; there has been the financial ruin of the Forresters and many of the young people are leaving the town. It would seem, however, that Mrs. Forrester has had more going on than meets the eye. Niel falls in love with what she represents, and is dismayed to discover that she has a lover, Frank Ellinger.
