I think the speaker encourages the reader to live a full life instead of letting life slide by.

The poet encourages the young man in not telling him about his life span as he thinks that it is an empty dream. The poet is advising him that not take life as an empty dream but to work hard and lead it to a success. The things are completely different from what they seem. The poet instructs him that life is tangible and quite unique and that grave isn t its ultimate goal. Its ultimate goal lies on our hard work and the in way we make it successful. He also says that man is neutral, his enjoyment and sorrowness are on a balance level.
