Why does the author go to such great lengths to describe the furnishings of the younger apartment? What do these furnishings and the state they are in say about the family's lives?

Hansberry's description of the Youngers' apartment is representative of the family's struggles. The furniture is worn out and old..... the apartment is too small to accommodate the number of people in the family. The furniture is a symbol of stagnation.... nothing gets better, everything is at a standstill.
