Throughout the play, Lena struggles to connect with her children, Beneatha and Walter. She's extremely worried about Walter's obsession with money and is totally disapproving of Beneatha's lack of faith in God. Mama even goes so far as to slap Beneatha in the face when the girl says that God doesn't exist. She wants her children to be loving and disciplined people with a strong faith in God. Mama wants her children to work hard, love each other and be happy.
Mama’s greatest dream is to own a larger house to live in, to provide home for hwr family, because family is expanding and current house is too small. She hopes that her children behaviors will change into lovable, kind and faithful.
