What does beneatha mean when she says , "enough of this assimilationist junk "?
Act 2 scene 1
Act 2 scene 1
Beneatha embraces her African heritage with new found pride in Nigerian costume, music, and ideology. She doesn't want to be seen as having assimilated into the culture she'd actually been raised in. Thus, rather than being seen as an African American, she wants to be known and seen as a Nigerian who just happens to live in the United States.
