A separate peace is set during World War II. What is the author attitude toward war, and how does he convey it?

The events in A Separate Peace often parallel the war. First, the boys are surrounded by war. It permeates their world and is an inevitable reality. The boys are innocent, and yet, the author portrays their tendency to play rough.... to compete to the best of their abilities. The battles on the playing field directly coincide with the battles at the front. Thus, it seems as if the author marks the war as a natural part of coming of age.... at least until Leper falls apart. Leper's mental breakdown is most definitely a negative..... young boys, unable to mentally handle the stress and violence. All in all, it is my opinions that Knowles represents both sides.... negative and positive.
