Describe the symbolic significance of Gene and Finny before the fall.

Finny and Gene's friendship carried much the same significance as the summer session. The boys were innocent..... they were carefree with their time. Unfortunately, these feelings didn't last the summer. The two boys were competitive, and the commpetition between them bred resentment.... careless speech...... and in the end, Finny's accident.
