How do Gene and Finny compare to one another academically and athletically?

Gene is an excellent student, very bright, and extremely consciencious. Finny, however, doesn't have much interest in academics.

Physically, Finny is the superior. He is very athletic and enjoys competition. He is also fearless. Gene is an average athlete, though, over the course of the novel, we see Finny push Gene to extend his physical boundaries.
