how does devon change when the fall semester begins?

Not much has really changed. Gene notices Devon is still a rather empty place of discipline and routine. The room across the hall, which belonged to Leper, is now Brinker Hadley's. Brinker comes to Devon well connected and a jerk. Finny is still convalescing at home and Gene really feels his absence. Gene has joined the rowing team as an assistant senior crew manager. His reasons for this are complex but have much to do with Finny's accident. That's about it!
