A Separate Peace
in what ways dose gene decribe his memories of the war years
between chapter 1-3
between chapter 1-3
Gene notes that the time spent at Pencey Prep was a time of fear, fears that he felt everyday. He returns to confront some of those fears, although by the time the story takes place the war is well over. When Gene thinks back, he realizes that they somehow did not take the war all that seriously when they were 15 or 16, even though there was bombing going on. These chapters talk about how they create some "teenaged" memories, even while they do such childish things as obtain beer by using forged draft cards as identification. All in all, they do not think about the specifics specifically even though they should.
