In your opinion what does "A Separate Peace" mean?

A Separate Peace refers to the fact that Gene and Finny must find their own identities; they must find their own peace. Gene and Finny have a co-dependent passive aggressive relationship. They feed off each other. They need each other to complete their identity. Both boys are stuck within their need for each other. Part of their relationship involves homoerotic undertones. Both boys must sever their connection with each other to reconcile their own identity. They need to find peace on their own terms without each other.
