what time sequence is established?

The narrator, Gene, returns to the Devon School in New Hampshire, where he was a student with his rebellious friend Phineas almost 15 years ago. The story then goes into flashback about Gene's time at the school. Just check out Chapter 1 and it's pretty obvious when the flashback happens.
