A Separate Peace
Why do u think the author preceded Finny's death with the prognosis that he was in little danger??

I think this speaks to the ambiguity of the whole novel, specifically the relationship between Gene and Finny. Both boys are certain of nothing including their relationship with each other. Gene and Finny never really do figure out how they felt about each other. Do they resent each other? Do they have a sexual attraction to each other. Keeping Finny's health ambiguous allows the author to intensify the instability within the characters.
