Who will it help more, Gene or Finny? Please explain.
It was important for Gene to tell the truth because Finny always really knew what the truth was. The fact that the truth wasn't discussed and was replaced by innuendo didn't save Gene from feeling guilty. Eventually, he had a need to clear his conscience. The fact that a full confession was never made had its effect on both boys and it would have helped them both equally.
