Tree-ear's relationship with Min is all business. Min serves as an employer and master, and Tree-ear works hard to absorb all that he can from Min's work.
Crane-man is a father figure, someone who looks out for and cares for Tree-ear. Crane-man's death is devastating for Tree-ear, who is left without affection and protection.
