A Streetcar named desire opens with an epigraph by Hart Crane, which immediately alerts us to something different.... the story isn't just being narrated or acted..... it's a combination of the two. The playwright is telling a story, an intricately descriptive story in which we as the audience are captivated by the language, the setting, and the atmosphere. In doing this, Williams tantalizes all of our senses.
