Stanley represents brute and primal masculinity. He is boorish yet there is usually a sense of truth to what he says. Stella mentions that she is sometimes attracted to his primal nature. Blanche tries to rebuke it in public but also seems susceptible to Stanley's traits. Although Stanley and Blanche quarrel, there is a sense of latent sexual tension to their exchanges.
