what does mariam's mother mean when she said "women like us"?

She is talking about what it means to be both a woman and a Hazara in Afghanistan. Both have few rights separately but together they are nothing. They are at the mercy of the men they are given to. They are more often than not abused. Mariam's mother explains that women like them can only hope to survive day by day.
