How is the angel in the story ironically different from what you would expect an angel to be?

The irony revolves around the disparity between the old man’s run-down appearance and his identification as a blessed angel. The villagers process an angel as a stereotype: a white cherub like figure. They have difficulty processing an angel looking ragged and dirty. They cannot understand an angel that looks sick and vulnerable. The villagers treat this old man with scorn and ridicule even though he could very well be an angel. They fail to follow their own Christian belief to look for Christ in the meek and the vulnerable.
