Other than the Old Man, the other characters speak Spanish, thus, the townspeople cannot understand his foreign dialect. His voice is was said to be "strong" like a sailors.... I take that to mean commanding. The angel's dialect is uncomprehensible.... possibly Norwegian from what we're told. None-the-less, we can't be sure of that because no one could understand him anyway. All we know is that he's a foreigner.
