What are the themes raised by Alfieri?

Alfieri is very much the bridge that is in the title. He has been in America long enough to bridge the two cultures. He is an honest lawyer and respects the law. He however must navigate between his Italian heritage and what Italian immigrants expect him to do with the laws he has sworn to uphold. This dichotomy between the two cultures is very much a theme in this play. Alfieri must reconcile "uncivilized" Italian tradition with "civilized" American law.
