I have been wondering this for both A Wrinke in Time and A Wind in the Door.

A Wind in the Door is set in a modern day village. The village, however, isn't the only setting, as L'Engle magical places like the VegVeganuel galaxy and Metron Aristoanuel galaxy and Metron Ariston (an imaginary setting), as well as Yadah, a planet that is located within Charles Wallace's body.
