The children encounter tremendous good AND tremendous evil, what are those things?

The tremendous good in Chapter Four is the three Mrs. Ws, the beautiful garden (Garden of Eden), and the beasts (angels) singing in the sky.... through their wings. The tremendous evil is the growing shadow in space..... the Dark Thing.
