Briefly describe what you learn in chapter 1 about the creightons and their way of life. What threatens to disrupt their lives?

In Chapter One, we learn that the Creightons are a large family of farmers. We learn that life is difficult and focuses on work.... the farming is exhausting and everyone must play their part. The family is close and loving, but the war (Civil War) threatens to disrupt both their lives and their family.
